PPMA Joins National Workshop on Pharmaceutical Quality and Collaboration

The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) continues to take active strides in advancing healthcare quality and innovation across the nation. On May 24, 2025, PPMA Chairman Mr. Touqeer-ul-Haq participated in a highly impactful national workshop held at the University of Karachi, jointly organized by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) – PCMD.

At the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA), Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) CEO, Dr. Obaidullah, stood tall among global health leaders, showcasing Pakistan’s transformative reforms to combat substandard and falsified (SF) medicines a crisis endangering millions worldwide.

One of his key initiatives is the implementation of a 2D QR code system for medicine authentication. This system aims to protect consumers, ensure medicine safety, and restore public confidence in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry. At the 78th World Health Assembly, Dr. Obaidullah showcased this innovative solution, earning international recognition for Pakistan’s commitment to pharmaceutical integrity.

The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (PPMA) has also expressed strong support for Dr. Obaidullah’s decisive actions. As a representative body of the pharmaceutical industry, PPMA believes this crackdown on counterfeit medicines is vital for ensuring patient safety and building trust in locally manufactured drugs.
